Swim Meet Volunteer Positions
Referee is the chief official at the swim meets. This should be someone with stroke and Turn experience. This position requires RSL training.*
Starter announces the race and event number, readies the timers and judges, and starts the races. The starter will declare false starts. This position requires RSL training.*
Clerk of Course get the swimmers lined up for their races, and handles last-minute changes to the race assignments. This position requires RSL training.*
Stroke and Turn Judge observes turns, finishes, and strokes and ensures all rules for a particular stroke are followed. Disqualifications (DQs) are reported to the referee. This position requires RSL training.*
Head Timer times each race with two stopwatches for substitution in case of a lane timer failure. This position requires RSL training.*
Timers time each race with with using the timing button for timedrop system. In regular dual meets, there are three timers per lane, one from each team and one from either team. Times are sent directly to the head score keeper through the app.Timers will also use a back-up stop watch as well. Timers attend a short meeting before the swim meet begins for timing instruction.
Head Scorer manages the data coming from the lane timers and fix any errors that occur. They print results for posting during the meet and print labels for ribbons. This position requires RSL Training.*
Runner brings timer sheets and dqs to the scorekeeper area.
Announcer announces upcoming events and who should report to clerk of course.
